Hi there, come on in!These are a set of pages about the time I have spent in the Scouts, mainly the 72nd Reading Sea Scout Group. I started in the Cub Scouts and progressed through the Scouts and Venture Scouts, before becoming an Instructor and finally an Assistant Scout Leader (ASL) On the left you can see the troop name-tag, District and County badges. |

The Troop generally meets on Monday evenings. During the Winter months they meet at the Church Hall and in the Summer they meet at the Troop's River HQ (our boathouse) enjoying canoeing, rowing or practicing backwoods and camping techniques. The Troop also makes use of the River HQ at weekends.
On the right you can see a picture showing the colouring of the troop neckerchief. As the Troop are Sea Scouts, they fold in the ends of the neckerchief before rolling it up which produces the 'cut-off' effect. The reason for this is traditionally to avoid catching the ends in ropes and pulleys etc.
During my first two years at university, I joined the 34th Northampton (Land) Scout Troop. I went on a couple of camps with them which was good fun. On the left you can see their troop name-tag, and combined District and County badges. Their neckerchief is similar to the above but the green is replaced by red which, ironically, is the same as 1st Reading Sea Scouts: 72nd's 'arch rivals'... | |||
