Walking

Me by a waterfall I have always enjoyed walking, especially in the Lake District. With the Scouts I went on some really good walks in the Lake District, the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and Dartmoor including Helvellyn, Sugar Loaf, Pen-y-fan and Cribyn. I have taken part in some large-scale Scouting hikes including the 24-mile "Sun Run" (an overnight hike from the Cotswolds to the Malverns) and the 46-mile "Three Towers Hike" (an all-day 'stroll' around the Berkshire Downs).

Me on Ben Nevis When I started at Nene, I joined the Mountaineering club and with them I climbed Helvellyn in the Lakes and Snowdon in North Wales. In September 1995 I went to the Lakes for a week's holiday and climbed Green and Great Gables. the picture above shows me during that holiday sat by a waterfall, (sorry - can't remember the name of the falls).

The photo on the right shows me nearing the summit of Ben Nevis in the middle of the summer in 1996 when Jackie (my then girlfriend) and I had a week in Fort William staying with her sister and boyfriend in a self-catering appartment. Of course we had to climb Ben Nevis and were lucky to pick the clearest day of the week - great view from the top! Notice that there was still quite a bit of snow up there in July...

Some of you may remember when this homepage had a different URL involving 'Yosemite'.
Well, because of that I got a bit interested in the place, so here is a little bit about it:

Yosemite National Park

Halfdome, Yosemite

You may well ask: "where is this 'Yosemite National Park' anyway?"... well, it's here:
