The Reverend Edward Thomas Gurney Hunter, Clerk in Holy Orders of the Church of England, residing at The Old House, Baltonsborough, Glastonbury in the County of Somerset, having by Petition unto the Lord Lyon King of Arms of date 26th January 1951 Shewn; THAT he, the Petitioner, was born on 20th July 1880, married on 12th January 1915 Blanche Vere daughter of Thomas Bolle Bosvile of Ravenfield Park in the County of York; and has issue two sons, Gervase Thomas Gurney Hunter, born 31st December 1917 (who married on 12th April 1946 Audrey Gravener daughter of Charles Alfred Whiting Pope, M.A., M.B., B.Chir. (Cantab.) and has issue a son and heir, Derek Gervase Hunter, born 29th April 1947) and Adrian Edward Bolle Hunter, born 18th January 1921: THAT the Petitioner is the elder son of James Edward Hunter, Captain, Royal Navy, and his wife (married 28th November 1877) Elizabeth Letitia, daughter of the Honourable and Reverend Thomas Orde-Powlett, brother of the Right Honourable William Henry, 3rd Lord Bolton: THAT the Petitioner's father, the said Captain James Edward Hunter, born 11th March 1834, died 18th October 1932, was the third-born but eldest son leaving issue of Hugh Hunter, Commander, Royal Navy, and his wife (married 6th January 1823) Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Mather of Charlton in the Country of Kent: That the Petitioner's grandfather, the said Commander Hugh Hunter, born 20th February 1794 and died 16th April 1867, was fifth-born but only son of whom male issue now survive of James Hunter of Crichton Dean in the County of Midlothian, and his wife (married 1783) Eleanor daughter of John Mure of Auchendrane: That the Petitioner's great-grandfather, the said James Hunter of Crichton Dean, born 1746 and died 1813, was the eldest son (his immediate younger brother William died unmarried in 1770, and his third brother was Sir John Hunter of Saint Lucar after-mentioned) of James Hunter of Crichton Dean, Architect Royal for the Kingdom of Scotland, and his wife (married 1745) Jean daughter of James Nisbett of Palacecraig in the County of Lanark: THAT the said James Hunter of Crichton Dean, born 1718, was the eldest son of John Hunter of Crichton Dean and East Gordon in the County of Berwick, who was fourth-born but second son of whom issue now survive of Patrick Hunter, 21st of Hunterston: THAT Ensigns Armorial were recorded in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland on 13th July 1775 in name of the aforesaid Sir John Hunter, born 1751 and died 1816, sometime H.M. Consul at St. Lucar and Seville and afterwards H.M. Consul General at Madrid, younger brother of the Petitioner's great-grandfather and whose only son, Robert John Hunter, was drowned, along with his wife and only infant son, in the Indian Ocean in 1824: And the Petitioner having prayed that the aforesaid Ensigns Armorial might be matriculated of new in the said Public Register in his own name being now heir and representative of his great-grand-uncle, the said Sir John Hunter, The Lord Lyon King of Arms by Interlocutor of date 5th February 1951 Granted Warrant to the Lyon Clerk to matriculate in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland in name of the Petitioner the following Ensigns Armorial, videlicet:- Vert, two greyhounds courant in pale Argent, on a chief engrailed of the last a boar's head erased Sable between 2 hunting horns of the first stringed Gules, below the Shield, which is ensigned of an ecclesiastical hat, having a string of one tassel on each side Sable, is placed on an Escrol this Motto "IN CORNU SALUTIS SPERO": and for the lay heirs succeeding to the said Arms, an helmet of befitting degree, with a Mantling Vert doubled Argent, and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest a hunting horn Vert, garnished Or, banded Sable, stringed Gules, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto "IN CORNU SALUTIS SPERO". Matriculated the Twelfth day of February 1951.
